Hi,

There is a section:
1:32:49.579,1:32:54.949
So he has a good ol' crack at
Proudhon, in the footnote,

Can you explain the meaning of "ol' crack at"?

Regads,
Jagadees.

Thanks for your message. Professor Harvey is referring to the correct page, p 142, for that quote.

Best,

Chris

harvey says in the second video
davidharvey org/2008/06/marxs-capital-class-02/
in minute 34:20 "on hundred and forty two"
but the page he is refering to is 132.

shouldnt there be an editor note in the subtitles, that he actually means page 132?

best

Hi Chris,
I am translating DH's class on capital.

But I am very much troubled in translating speech. Because this is the first time i am going it. Problem is with my language. It has reverse order than English.

eg:
0:12:02.819,0:12:04.830
അത് വളരെ രസകരമാണ് വായിക്കുന്നത്
it's very interesting reading

0:12:04.830,0:12:07.460
ആ വീക്ഷണത്തില്‍ മാര്‍ക്സിനെ
Marx in that perspective.

If i translate word by word as in English it looks bad in out language. For our language it has to be said like:

0:12:02.819,0:12:04.830
reading Marx in that perspective.

0:12:04.830,0:12:07.460
it's very interesting

So what I have to do. Change the order of the speech as per our language style or keep exactly as what was said?

Or can i merge these 2 sections together. means 0:12:02.819 - 0:12:07.460. If its so i have freedom to reverse the words. without that if i reverse the words, then the speech in one section may not be the one displayed as the caption. eg for section 0:12:02.819,0:12:04.830 caption will be of 0:12:04.830,0:12:07.460.

What is the better approach. May some other languages also has same issue. Please give some suggestions.

Thank,
Jagadees.

I know this thread is old, but I'll ask anyway. What edition are we agreeing on ? I believe that the folio essai edition is a good take, Maximilien Rubel's work use's Roy's translation but added notes when passages where missing. Do we go with that and remove any reference to the Lachâtre edition ?
