The Spanish characters should be OK. It's mostly about leading spaces and line length.
So: no leading spaces on lines (I think Scrivener (which is awesome BTW) adds leading space on every new paragraph) ->change the default setting in Scrivener, and no lines with more than 55 characters.
You can also send the file to me once you're finished with another lecture and I'll convert it into a version that hopefully does not produce too many errors after an upload to YouTube: ten.xmg|relleutm#ten.xmg|relleutm
(Hardwraps are explicit "line-breaks", i.e. the control character that is produced when you hit Return.)

I'm guessing that the problems were coming from characters that Scrivener was adding to your text. I think if you follow MikoT's advice about using a simple text editor like BBedit or TextWrangler, you should be all right.
Awesome. I was getting ready to copy and paste all day. Lessons for next time. So, weird characters in Spanish still ok to use? It was only a problem of space? Hard wrapping??
I rearranged lines that were over 55 characters long and removed some more leading spaces (could also be some other non-printable character) and some more weird characters.
I suspect that most of the problems resulted from using a WYSIWYG program (Word?) to work on the text, there's just too much automatic stuff going on in such programs.
I recommend to use a simple text editor for the translation (I use BBedit or TextWrangler), preferably one that can be set to wrap lines over 55 characters.
(And all lines must be hard wrapped at the end.)

I just had to correct a missing line break at line 4453, and it worked perfectly.

If this doesn't work then it's probably because of the many special characters in the Spanish language.
It could be the inverted question mark, since this char occurs about 91 times in the text.
My text file is stored as a unicode UTF-8 file right now.
Will provide other encodings if it doesn't work (maybe we should also check the YT documentation to see if there's anything written about character encodings of subtitle files).

Unfortunately, it is still showing 91 parse errors.
Really not sure what is going on. I will try a few other things this weekend.
I think the problem is that beginning at about min. 35 most of the lines start with a unknown or space character.
And that probably confuses the subtitle reader on youtube.
I removed all the unnecessary white space, the admin may try it with this version.

Maybe you can try this:
Open the file in Scrivener, copy and paste it as txt in a program like Open Office or something. Reformat if needed. Then paste it in the webpage.
I have no idea because the text version of the class looks normal on the page. I suspect it happened in the migration from one program to the page but my technical know-how as evidenced in this is next to zero. Which do you think would be the best way to fix it?

Take a look at the video, with Spanish captions turned on, for a few minutes starting at minute 35:00 and you will see some of the kinds of problems we are having.
Multiple lines are running into each other, like it thinks that the next line of timecode is part of the text for the previous caption.
But everything seems like it is well formed. I can't tell any obvious differences between he lines that are malfunctioning and the lines that are okay.
Maybe it is a carriage return vs line break issue?
Do you think is a formatting problem? I did large chunks of the translation in another word processing program (Scrivener), and then had to reformat it to fit the javascript look. Maybe that's it? How do we fix it? Do we have to retype the whole thing?

Very exciting. I've uploaded the Spanish captions to Class 1 to YouTube.
Unfortunately, it is telling me that "There were 91 parse errors".
I've been trying to diagnose the problems without success.
Can anyone take a look and help me figure out what is causing these parse errors? This has not happened with any of the other languages. Thanks.
